Matthew Hasty at the River Inn
Internationally acclaimed Artist and Memphian Matthew Hasty will become “The Artist in Residence” at the Mobil 5 Star Award designated River Inn Hotel and complex in Harbor Town, March 1, 2012.
Mr. Hasty, a master of paintings depicting the landscapes of the Mississippi River Delta and of Mississippi, Arkansas and the Memphis area will assume residency status at the River Inn complex: the Inn, Paulette’s, Tugs and The River Hall venue. Mr. Hasty will have a working studio in The River Hall Room overlooking the Mississippi River. His studio will be accessible to the public and hotel and restaurant guests on a limited basis when he is in residence.
Matthew’s paintings adorn the walls of many prominent patrons in the Memphis and Delta region and around the world, including the U.S. Embassy in Egypt, the office of the President of South Korea as well as musician John Prine.
Lewis Holland of River Inn was an early patron of Mr. Hasty, selecting a majestic river scene painting for the hotel lobby entrance wall when the River Inn opened for business in 1999. Holland states, “we have had so many guests and visitors comment on this painting over the years, we feel like some return just to sit in our lobby and admire this masterpiece”.
Holland notes that “First Class meets First Class” with the talented and popular artist Hasty establishing his only outside studio at the River Inn complex. “We invite the public and our dinner and overnight guests to come down and meet Matthew, see him work, and of course view the largest number of Hasty original works ever assembled in this type of setting — on display throughout the River Inn complex.” The River Inn was recently named the top hotel in the Memphis area by Mobil 5 Star, a designation it has held for two consecutive years.
In addition to certain original paintings available for sale to the public, select Hasty masterpieces will be made available in limited print editions through the River Inn studio.
Hasty states, “the unique studio venue at River Inn offers me the most awesome and inspiring setting an artist could imagine- with the river, the changing sky and the river traffic presenting a new palette with every new minute.”
In addition to Matthew opening his studio to visitors and guests, “we will be offering ‘Lunch and Dinner with the Artist’ occasions,” stated George Falls of Paulette’s. These will be occasions where lunch and dinner guests can chat with and watch Matthew paint as they enjoy their meals
Mr. Hasty was professionally educated at the renowned Ringling College of Art in Sarasota, Fl. He has painted in New York, and now in Memphis for the past 14 years. His original paintings are represented by galleries from Atlanta to Los Angeles. Matthew’s work ranges in price from $1500 to $10,000, and he remains in demand for personalized originals depicting his client’s favorite scenes.
An open house reception welcoming Matthew Hasty as the “artist in residence” at River Inn will be held on March 9th.
